Vanwege schending van de BSD licensie is MicroBSD gestopt. Theo de Raadt (hoofd ontwikkelaar OpenBSD) kwam achter een aantal rare cvs wijzigingen. Door deze commotie heeft het MicroBSD team besloten te stoppen. Een quote van de verklaring
The MicroBSD Project has Shut Down! All works have been removed.
To the OpenBSD developers‚ There was no intent to modify any copyright in the CVS tree. We have publically acknowledged the issue and have shut down this project. We apologize for the inconvience and commotion this has caused the BSD community. It was never our intent to be at odds with anyone in the community to start. All MicroBSD code has been removed from our servers. The web site will go away. The project will cease to exist. This decision is based on time‚ efforts involved‚ the lack of developers‚ and lack of interest. I personally do not have the time‚ nor am I inclined to continue with a project that has caused this much negativity in the community.
At the suggestions from various repected people in the industry who supported us‚ we are sorry. We feel it is not in the best interest of the project to continue its exitance. To those that opposed us from the start‚ We will just go away as you wish.

Met PHP en Apache kan je die simpele kale “404 Page Not Found” pagina’s omzetten naar nettere foutmeldingen. Je kan een dynamische pagina met de naam van de pagina maken‚ een “on-the-fly” pagina uit een database of je kan een email sturen naar de webmaster.

De nieuwe FreeBSD 4.8 release is bekend gemaakt. Hidetoshi Shimokawa heeft nieuwe functionaliteit toegevoegt aan Firewire. Zoals:
- built-in DV
- improved recovery process & timeout stability
- Write/ioctl support for /dev/fwmem0.

Bij een normale login procedure gebruik je een gewoon wachtwoord‚ eentje die je elke keer weer in kan voeren‚ totdat je deze verandert of moet veranderen.
In het volgende artikel wordt beschreven hoe je “one-time passwords” systeem op kan zetten.
There is another authentication system known as One Time Passwords (OTP). As the name suggests‚ you can only use a password once; you aren’t allowed to reuse it. An OTP system ensures that a discovered password is useless to the person who discovers it. This can provide a bit more security in a world that contains password crackers‚ packet sniffers‚ and keyloggers.

Netwerk server met een hoge load kunnen “uitgeput” raken. Op z’n minst kan dit ervoor zorgen dat de server minder snel reageert. Maar als er niks aan gedaan wordt kan het uiteindelijk tot een crash leiden.

This paper‚ by Philipp Buhler and Henning Brauer‚ will provide an understanding of the memory management of OpenBSD‚ how to monitor the current status of the system‚ why crashes occur and how to prevent them.

Spammers kunnen profiteren van het feit dat veel gebruikers slordig omgaan met de nieuwsbriefsoftware van Majordomo.
De e-mailadressen nieuwsbriefabonnees zijn voor kwaadwillenden simpel te achterhalen. Iemand hoeft alleen een mailtje te sturen naar de verwerker van e-mailaanvragen‚ met daarin een kleine code. Even later wordt een mailtje gestuurd naar de verzender met alle adressen van de mailinglist‚ ook al is de verzender geen lid van de lijst‚ zo zegt Marco van Berkum‚ beveiligingsexpert van OBIT.
